PDX Pix - July 2012

Sorry, I'm a little late on the July update.  In July we had a great Independence Day weekend/week visit from our Bay Area friends, I did the Seattle-to-Portland 200 mile (2-day) bike ride with a group of 9 of us from Portland and Seattle, and of course we continued on with quite a bit of house and yard work.  Summer in Portland is beautiful!

Kate works on putting the floating cork tile floor in the kitchen

Ann and Adam excited about their Deschutes tasters

Playing bocce in the park blocks downtown - serious business, based on the high-precision measuring going on.

We had some fun at the goofy glow in the dark mini-golf course downtown

College buddy Derek came through town with his band "Wino Vino" (from Austin TX), was good to see him and catch up!

Some pics from the Seattle-to-Portland ride:

Most of our group just before the start near UW campus in Seattle

The masses at the first major food stop.  Craziness!  But good snacks.

Riding along the Yelm-Tenino bike trail, Day 1

Relaxing at our half-way campsite in Chehalis

Busy rest stop about halfway through Day 2

Near the end at St. John's Bridge

Finished!  202 miles completed!

I also did another organized ride, this time local to Portland.  The Chris King Gourmet Century (actually a metric century) combines gourmet food from local restauranteurs and scenic cycling in Willamette Valley - this year the course snaked around between Portland and out by my work.

Here's vegan Kate ironically posing with the split-roast whole hogs (later dinner)

Our group after the first big climb

Delicious dessert following the post-ride meal.  Mmmmm....

That's all I have for this month!  Sorry for the heavy emphasis on cycling, but maybe it's representative of July for me.  The weather is nice this time of year here, so you can't blame us for being outside as much as possible!

Kitchen looks great! We've been thinking about cork for our place but just can't convince ourselves that the cat claws won't destroy it. How is it holding up to Banjo?

Anonymous - you were here in August! Don't worry, I have a good one of you with some exploding non-saleable Gilbert wine all queued up.

Charity - thanks! We do like the cork. But then again we don't have any toddlers prone to spilling gallons of liquid on it yet... We will see how it fares to dog claws but supposedly it has a 20-year "commercial rated" wear layer (similar to a poly finish but not quite the same) on it. There are several ways you can go with cork - ours is the "clic" style floating tiles. Pretty easy to install and looks good. If you are really considering it we can chat more sometime if you'd like.

Well yes, but the subject indicates that you're blogging August pictures. Change the title.

Ah hah! You are right, I will correct this egregious instance of internet inaccuracy post-haste!

Tom, I'll be in touch when we get closer to picking flooring. Thanks!
