It's been quite a long time since I had a google maps-related post, but this is pretty cool.
TIMELAPSE
'Timelapse' is basically a google maps that cycles through time from 1984-2011, for any area you choose. So you can see environmental changes, urban growth around your hometown, or any other long-term trend you can think of that shows up on satellite imagery. There are some neat presets, but just searching around is interesting as well. For example, how did a giant lake just appear SW of Los Angeles in 2000? Chapel Hill/Durham really do seem to have grown. And watching Chernobyl grow back over is kind of neat.

Another fun google maps thing is this game where it plops you down in a random place and you try to guess where you are.
